The abundance of game in the area made this Middle Age farm a perfect hunting refuge for the Castilian royal family. Later, King Philip V decided to build the Royal Palace of the Granja de San Ildefonso and put in the gardens designed by French architects and sculptors, hence its similarity to Versailles. Nearby, we can find the Royal Glass Factory, a European industrial architecture gem of the 18th century and building declared of Cultural Interest by UNESCO.

What will we do?
In the morning, we’ll pick you up at your hotel and take you to the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso. King Philip V had this palace built in 1721 as an estate for recreation and hunting, but it ended up being the seat of the Court. It is a wonderful example of European Palatine Architecture that presents influences from Spanish, Italian and French Baroque, which is reflected in the gardens and fountains designed by French architects and sculptors. Inside we will visit the Marble Hall, the Lacquer Room, the statue gallery, the Infanta Isabel’s rooms and the Tapestry Museum. You will also admire frescoes and 17th century Flemish oil paintings. Later, we will move on to the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja where we can see how some of the best glass in the world is made. Master glass craftsmen have blown classic and contemporary glass designs here daily since the 18th century. After the visit, we’ll eat at a traditional local restaurant.
